White Center CDA has aligned with BIPOC Unincorporated King County communities in Skyway and Vashon Island to cultivate community-driven economic development. We met with council members McDermott and Zahilay to demand $5.5 from King County’s COVID 7 Supplemental Budget, which totals nearly $600M.
The counter offer we received back is for our collective unincorporated areas to receive a total of $250K to conduct more studies to support our requests. Our demand for $5.5M is based on hundreds of community surveys, one-on-one conversations, and yearly summit discussions with our respective communities over many years of advocacy and hands-on project work focused on anti-displacement and anti-racist economic development.
We don’t need any more studies or data, we need sustained and significant investment from King County council to continue our collective work of community-led economic development now and in the future.
Together We Are Stronger,
CDA

THANK YOU, White Center Community!
With your support, we have met our original fundraising goal of $5000. We will meet on June 7th to discuss how to distribute the funds to our interested vandalized businesses. We are still accepting donations at the link below, and the need is still there, as vandalism continues to be an issue in the WC community: https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-your-local-businesses-handle-the-vandal?utm_campaign=p_cp+share-sheet&utm_medium=copy_link_all&utm_source=customer
